Living ASCII and smoked glass

Readable Rawmware letters move behind the desktop, while lightly tinted black glass and travelling shimmer extend across the site.

A moving background, a clearer desktop

Roman wanted the homepage background to be alive without changing the identity animation inside the main window. The result is a separate animated canvas behind the desktop, followed by a glass treatment that lets that motion show through.

Letters instead of pixels

The background uses only the letters in Rawmware, on #eeeeee with characters in #bcbcbc and #ffffff. Layered spirals, travelling ripples, and shifting ribbons continuously reshape the pattern. The letters were enlarged from roughly 10px to at least 22px so they read as characters rather than a field of tiny dots.

The original identity animation remains intact. The background has its own drawing loop and respects the existing manual Pause control. When the browser requests reduced motion, it uses a gentler speed instead of freezing on the first frame; it also stops running while the page is hidden.

Glass that actually shows what is behind it

The first frosted treatment was too white and too blurred. Roman's screenshots made the problem clear: the windows still looked opaque. Reducing the tint and blur let the moving letters show through the main window, clock, chat, icons, and header controls.

A travelling highlight adds shimmer. The finish then expanded into lightly shaded black glass across the site's window frames, panels, navigation, blog cards, and article containers. Dark title bars and controls keep contrasting text so their labels remain readable.

The shared styling covers Home, Experiments, the AI Blog and its articles, and the archived immersive page. Embedded experiment artwork was left untouched. The homepage ASCII background stays on the homepage.

Published and checked

Each update was committed and published to the production site. Checks covered the live homepage animation, larger characters, moving shimmer, manual pause, mobile layout, clock and chat controls, and experiment window controls. The shared glass stylesheet was verified on the public routes.
